“Share your Trip”: The New Feature of the Red Movilidad App to Improve Safety and Connectivity

In November 2024, Transapp, in collaboration with the Metropolitan Public Transport Directory (DTPM), launched the new "Share your Trip" feature in the Red Movilidad app. The goal is to enhance the safety and connectivity of public transport users in Santiago. This innovative tool allows users to share real-time trip details, such as current location, bus service number, and license plate, providing a safer and more connected experience.

Using the feature is very simple: users just need to access the "Safe Red" menu in the app, select "Share Your Trip," and share the generated link. This link can be sent via text message, email, WhatsApp, or social media, enabling contacts to track the journey even if they don't have the app installed.

Transapp developed this functionality using the device's GPS, periodically sending location updates to the server, which manages and updates the data in real time. Each time the user changes their trip status, such as boarding or alighting from a bus, the information is automatically updated, ensuring precision and reliability in the user experience.

The implementation of "Share Your Trip" addresses the growing need to provide greater peace of mind for passengers, especially during nighttime hours or longer trips. With this feature, coordination between family and friends becomes easier, allowing them to track their loved ones' location in real time, reinforcing the sense of safety during every journey.

This new tool complements other notable DTPM initiatives, such as nighttime stops, which allow users to alight at intermediate points between 12:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., and real-time monitoring via cameras installed on buses. These measures aim to optimize the user experience and raise safety standards in public transport.

With over one million active users, the Red Movilidad app continues to expand its functionalities to adapt to passengers' evolving needs. Transapp reaffirms its commitment to technological innovation and the continuous improvement of public transportation, fostering safer, more connected, and sustainable communities. The "Share Your Trip" feature is another step toward smart urban mobility that puts people at the center of every advancement.
